At Green Tech Energy Group our innovative, proprietary power factor correction system enables us to optimize inductively fixed and variable loads, generating the maximum amount of energy savings and yielding a rapid and impressive ROI.

Using this system we are able to precisely measure the exact amount of capacitance required to optimize the power factor back to unity. To ensure accuracy we survey every motor/load, and upon completion provide an immediate and comprehensive estimation of savings.

Power Factor Correction

To understand Power Factor, visualize a horse pulling a railroad car down a railroad track. Because the railroad ties are uneven, the horse must pull the car from the side of the track. The horse is pulling the railroad car at an angle to the direction of the car's travel. The power required to move the car down the track is the Working (Real) Power. The effort of the horse is used to move the car down the track. The car will not move sideways; therefore, the sideways pull of the horse is wasted effort or Nonworking (Reactive) Power.

The angle of the horse's pull is related to Power Factor, which is defined as the ratio of Real (Working) Power to Apparent (Total) Power. If the horse is led closer to the center of the track, the angle of side pull decreases and the real power approaches the value of the apparent power. Therefore, the ratio of Real Power to Apparent Power (the Power Factor) approaches 1. As the Power Factor approaches 1, the Reactive (Nonworking) power approaches 0.

  • Medical and Hospital Centers and Equipment
  • HID/Ballast Lighting

Shipboard

Exios PFC Boxes will drive energy optimization benefits across a broad spectrum of systems & equipment Shipboard, and in addition, supports the i-ENCON and SEMCI initiatives of energy management and conservation. These benefits can be realized while underway or while Cold Iron at port.

Ship types containing some of the equipment likely to benefit the most include Hospital Ships, Oceanographic Survey Ships, Dry Cargo/Ammunition Ships, and SBX-Class(radar) vessels.

Consequent savings can be redirected to other areas where budget cuts may have reduced support.

Equipment and systems may include but are not limited to:

  • Operating Room Equipment, Lab Equipment
  • Control Room, Computer/Data/Scientific Equipment
  • Fuel Storage Areas
  • Climate Controlled Cargo Decks
  • Refrigeration & Freezer Areas for Food Storage
  • Ammunition Holding Areas
  • AC, Compressors, Motor Driven Pumps

Facilities

Exios PFC Boxes will have immediate and sustainable energy optimization benefits across multiple applications within the Facilities Division. Many of the systems and equipment listed characteristically have a low power factor making them high-priority areas for Power Factor Correction.

  • Refrigeration and Freezer Units
  • Climate Control Systems for AC/Heat; Housing, Ammo Holding Areas, Common Areas
  • Conveyors/Motorized Transport Systems
  • Exercise/Fitness Centers
  • Medical and Hospital Centers and Equipment
  • Compressors

Hospitals & Medical

Hospitals tend to consume MORE energy per square foot than other buildings in the commercial sector such as office buildings, retail stores, and educational facilities.

  • They Run 24/7 and employ sophisticated heating, ventilation, and HVAC systems.
  • They typically reflect a LOW Power Factor rating of on average 0.70-0.80.
  • Most incur utility company penalties and charges for lower Power Factors.

They perform continual energy-intensive activities such as:

  • Medical & Lab Equipment Usage
  • Sterilization Systems
  • Computer, Servers, Data Centers
  • Food Services
  • Refrigeration

End Use categories with the HIGHEST site energy use intensifies (EUI's) typically reflect more than 50% of site energy usage:

  • Reheat & Heating Systems
  • Fans (Supply, Return, Exhaust)
  • Chiller Plant Energy (Chillers, Cooling Tower Fans, Cooling System Pumps)

Each Exios box is custom built to the specifications driven by the energy analysis and sizing process. GreenTech Energy Group maintains and performs a proprietary process and apparatus for optimizing power factor on electrical loads.
